In addition to charitable off-court initiatives, the Nuggets and its community partners host six different educational- and athletic-inspired programs, including NBA Math Hoops. Launched in the fall of 2014, the program teaches fundamental math skills through an innovative and fun board game involving statistics of NBA and WNBA players. The Nuggets were the second team in the league to adopt the community program model, which is presently used by 72 educational institutions in Denver, Aurora, and the surrounding communities.
The program works similarly to an NBA season, as students draft their teams and compete in NBA Math Hoops games. In March, the top participants from each school compete at the year-end Denver Regional Championship tournament. A 2015 evaluation of the program showed that participating students’ test scores increased three times as much as those who didn't participate.
