The Nuggets missed the NBA playoffs for the fifth straight year, but it was not without a solid effort. The team finished the 2017-2018 season with its most wins (46) since the 2012-2013 season and earned a one-game opportunity at qualifying for the post-season in the final game of the year. Denver played the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 11 with the winner receiving the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Nuggets put up a fight, but eventually lost 112-106 thanks to impressive performances from Timberwolves' players Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler.
Denver trailed 99-91 in the fourth quarter of the game, but rallied to tie the score at 101-101 on the heels of clutch shooting from Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. The Nuggets won its previous six games to get to the play-in game, which was the first of its kind in the last 21 years.
